Technology at ICOM – Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine

Technology That Powers Medical Education

At ICOM, we’ve built a medical school from the ground up with technology at its foundation. Every student, every classroom, and every clinical experience is enhanced by a seamless Apple ecosystem designed to prepare tomorrow’s physicians.

Apple Distinguished School

Our Apple Distinguished School Journey

ICOM is proud to continue its culture of innovation and collaboration, supported by Apple technology.

A Foundation Built on Innovation

As Idaho’s first and only medical school, ICOM is dedicated to delivering a high-quality, modern medical education in a state-of-the-art facility. As a new school, ICOM was uniquely positioned to incorporate technology at a foundational level into its curriculum and facilities — reimagining medical education from day one.

Through thoughtful incorporation of technology in the classroom and clinical training environments, ICOM is enhancing the way its students learn and practice the art of medicine. Today’s students are digitally-savvy, and as health care systems become increasingly digitized — such as telehealth and patient data — ICOM students are prepared to face any health care context.

Our Vision & What’s Next

Vision

ICOM’s goal is to provide the tools, environment, and collaborative culture that supports student success as they navigate their learning experiences. Empowered with an iPad Air, Apple Pencil Pro, and Magic Keyboard, each student can customize the iPad for personal learning that elevates their unique experience. With Apple TV at every campus display, that unique experience instantly transforms into a shared one — fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation among students and faculty.

What’s Next

ICOM continues to expand training resources through our Professional Development services, ensuring faculty and staff remain at the forefront of educational technology. A new multi-purpose lecture capture studio equipped with Apple TV, Mac Studio, and Final Cut Pro will enhance faculty lectures and create rich digital content for student learning both on campus and during clinical rotations.

Stories of Impact

How iPad and Apple technology are transforming the daily lives of ICOM students and faculty.

Team-Based Learning

Students work in small groups of 5–10 peers to respond to clinical vignettes, learn from material, and create content to teach back to the class. With each student having a dedicated iPad, they collaborate seamlessly using AirDrop and AirPlay.

Digital Note-Taking

Students who choose to learn exclusively on a digital platform take notes directly on iPad, integrating sketches, images, handwritten and typed notes, and links to resources. These notes become indexed references for their entire medical career.

Collaborative Culture

Many students use their iPad to create course-specific study guides and share them with each other. This sharing of resources fosters engagement and creates a community of learning that expands well beyond the classroom walls.

Proven Success

Technology-enhanced learning delivers real outcomes for ICOM students.

100%

Residency Match Rate

ICOM’s graduates, across all cohorts, have secured a 100% residency placement rate.

98%

Device Adoption

98% of ICOM students regularly use their Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard Folio, making iPad the centerpiece of their daily learning.

730+

Graduates

A growing network of ICOM graduates entering residency programs across the country, prepared with the digital-first skills modern medicine demands.

“iPad helps students find their own best path to learning. The lifecycle of a medical student’s notes do not end at the conclusion of a class or exam — they become indexed references that can be accessed throughout a lifelong career in medicine.”
— Brian Atkinson, Chief Information Officer
