At ICOM, learning extends far beyond the classroom! With more than 50 student clubs and organizations, there are plenty of opportunities for our future physicians to explore their interests, build connections, develop leadership skills, and give back to the community.
Our recent Student Club Fair gave first-year students the chance to meet club members, discover new interests, and find their place in ICOM’s campus community. From specialty-focused clubs to service organizations and recreational activities, there’s something for everyone!

ICOM’s ObGyn Interest Group recently hosted an Episiotomy Clinic led by Dr. Don Dyer. After learning about the use of episiotomies, students got hands-on practice with suturing techniques using custom-made models created by Dr. Dyer, helping them gain a better understanding of this procedure.
The group is also raising awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October! Regular breast self-awareness can help individuals recognize changes in breast tissue, and routine screening mammograms are an important tool for early detection. Join us in showing support for those affected by breast cancer, including survivors, by wearing pink!

Members of ICOM’s Urology Club recently volunteered at the River of Life Men’s Shelter in Boise, helping serve dinner to individuals in need.
Service opportunities like these remind us that being a physician extends beyond the clinic. It’s about showing compassion, supporting our communities, and making a difference in the lives of others.
We’re proud of our students for putting service into action! And they’re not done yet — the Urology Club will return to volunteer again in November. 🙌

ICOM alumni, Dr. Mary Smith Pendleton (‘26) and Dr. Mohammad Abuakar (‘25), had a chance to connect with ICOM student, Amulya Jain, OMS-IV, during an Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA) event at the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) annual conference, held in Chicago earlier this month.
