This past weekend, student physicians traded their white coats for safety vests as they participated in Ada County’s Adopt-a-Highway program. The cleanup effort took place along a two-mile stretch of road near the ICOM campus, where students collected bags of litter and debris in an effort to support a cleaner, healthier community.

Organized by ICOM’s Student Government Association, the College initially “adopted” a portion of Locust Grove Road back in 2020. These biannual clean-up events bring together future healthcare professionals who are just as passionate about public health and environmental stewardship as they are about medicine. For many, it’s an opportunity to give back to the community they now call home, and to promote the idea that caring for the environment is an extension of caring for people.

By participating in the Adopt-a-Highway program, students hope to inspire others to take part in community service projects and show that even busy schedules can allow time for meaningful action.
