Students from the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Pediatrics Interest Group spent an evening inspiring the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals during a recent STEM Night at a local elementary school.
With tables set up for interactive exploration, the club welcomed children from kindergarten through fifth grade to discover the basics of medicine through touch, sound, and curiosity.
Armed with stethoscopes and anatomical heart models, the future physicians guided young learners through demonstrations on how the heart works and what healthcare providers listen for during a check-up. Children had the chance to listen to their own heartbeats, ask questions, and get a close-up look at the structure of one of the body’s most important organs.
For the Pediatrics Club, the event was an opportunity to spark early interest in science while fostering connection with the community.
From wide-eyed kindergartners to inquisitive fifth graders, attendees embraced the chance to learn, explore, and imagine what it might be like to care for patients one day. ICOM is proud to support events that encourage STEM engagement and strengthen ties with local schools.
