The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine is proud to announce that third-year student Lu Wolff has been elected President of the National Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) for 2026-2027.

Student Physician Wolff was elected by SOMA voting members during the 2025 Osteopathic Medical Education (OMED) Conference, marking a historic moment as she becomes the first ICOM student physician to hold this national leadership position.
During her second year at ICOM, Student Physician Wolff served as President of the College’s SOMA Chapter, where she championed student engagement, advocacy and professional development for osteopathic medicine. Her leadership helped strengthen the chapter’s involvement in national SOMA initiatives and fostered a strong community of student physicians dedicated to the osteopathic profession.
“I have worked incredibly hard to reach this point, and being elected National SOMA President is both humbling and rewarding,” Student Physician Wolff said. “I am grateful for the trust of osteopathic students across the country to represent their voices and ensure we have not just a seat at the table, but a strong, influential presence in shaping the future of our profession. This year, my focus is on supporting the next generation of osteopathic leaders by equipping students to remain united, informed, and effective advocates, even amid a dynamic healthcare environment.”
SOMA, the student affiliate of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), represents more than 16,000 osteopathic medical students across the U.S. The organization provides leadership, advocacy, and service opportunities aimed at advancing the osteopathic profession and improving the health of patients and communities.
