Step 2: Review Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following academic and course prerequisites:

    • GPA: Competitive applicants hold a 3.2 cumulative and science GPA or higher.
    • Degree status: At least 75% of your bachelor’s coursework must be completed at the time of application. A bachelor’s degree is required prior to matriculation.
    • Prerequisite courses (grade of “C” or higher):
      • Biology with lab (1 year)
      • General Chemistry with lab (1 year)
      • Organic Chemistry with lab (1 year)
      • Physics (1 year)
      • English (1 year)
      • Advanced sciences recommended: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry

Step 3: Confirm You Can Meet Technical Standards

All ICOM students must demonstrate the ability to:

    • Observe and interpret clinical and laboratory findings
    • Communicate effectively in English (spoken and written)
    • Perform motor skills such as physical exams and osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT)
    • Think critically, analyze, and make decisions under pressure
    • Exhibit professionalism, emotional resilience, and ethical behavior

Training includes participation in anatomy labs, OMM practice (including peer physical examination), and ultrasound education.

Step 4: Apply Through AACOMAS

Applications are submitted exclusively through the AACOMAS portal.

    • The cycle opens each May and closes April 1.
    • Applicants from partner institutions with articulation agreements (Boise State, ISU, Loyola Chicago, University of Montana) are guaranteed an interview if prerequisites are met.

Step 5: Prepare Letters of Recommendation

At least one letter is required:

    • From a science faculty member (PhD) or pre-health advisor
    • A letter from a physician (DO or MD) is strongly recommended
    • Letters from relatives will not be accepted

Step 6: Complete the Secondary Application

Qualified applicants will be invited to complete a secondary application.

    • $65 non-refundable fee (waivers available with AACOMAS approval)
    • Use your essay to demonstrate your alignment with ICOM’s mission, especially your commitment to serving underserved and rural communities
