The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (ICOM) newest students spent a portion of their orientation volunteering at The Idaho Foodbank on Tuesday, July 30.
In just two hours, ICOM’s Class of 2023 labelled 30,464 pounds of canned vegetables, which equates to 25,387 meals for hungry Idahoans.
“The Idaho Foodbank is grateful to have the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine as a partner as we work to provide hunger relief and support the health of so many people across our state,” said Jane McLaughlin, Volunteer Program Coordinator at The Idaho Foodbank.
ICOM’s New Student Orientation is a chance for incoming students to become acquainted with the school’s faculty, curriculum and campus; but it also provides an opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with the area and become involved with organizations that help make a difference in the community.
“Volunteering is always important, no matter what, and this is a great way to start making roots in Idaho and meeting people who are like-minded,” said Sidrah Khan, OMS-I. “This is a good opportunity for us to give back and meet our classmates.”
