Idaho Power recently recognized the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine for its commitment to energy efficiency at its campus in Meridian. Building upgrades earned the college more than $56,000 in incentives from Idaho Power.
The money saved with these energy efficiency measures is going to a great cause: the students.
“I am extremely proud that our college has taken these important steps to conserve energy throughout the facility,” said Dr. Tracy J. Farnsworth, ICOM President. “I am also proud to announce that the rebate ICOM received from Idaho Power will be used to support our student-doctors in the form of financial awards to help offset the cost of tuition as they pursue their goal of becoming physicians.”
ICOM is also proud of the environmental impact of these measures, which will save nearly 317,000 kilowatt-hours of energy per year — enough to power 28 average-sized homes. Upgrades included a reflective roof and energy efficient lighting and HVAC systems.
“The design of ICOM goes beyond state of the art medical education spaces,” said Chris Wilson, Director of Facilities at ICOM. “Not only does the facility promote wellbeing for our students, faculty and staff, it is also lessening our impact on the environment.”
