We are excited for each of you to be part of the Class of 2024, and can’t wait for you to join us in July.

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

New Student Orientation will be Wednesday, July 29, 2020 to Friday, July 31, 2020 and attendance is mandatory.

On Monday, July 27th and Tuesday, July 28th, students will be able to visit ICOM and pick up their ID badges, iPads, parking passes, locks, and try on their white coats. It is highly recommended you plan to pick up these times on Monday or Tuesday so you are ready for Orientation on July 30. These items will not be available for pick up before Monday, July 27th.

You will sign-up for a time to come to campus during one of those two days. You will start with trying on your White Coat and then pick up the rest of your items. IT will also be available during this time to help with iPad set-up and questions.

To sign-up for a time to come to campus on the 27th or 28th,  please visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0F4DAFAC2EA5FF2-student1. This should only take a few minutes.

The schedule for New Student Orientation will be posted at a later date.

SUPPLY LIST FOR DOCTOR’S BAG

This Doctor’s Bag Supply List is the clinical supply requirements for medical school. These items need to be purchased by the second week of school.

EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION

Each student needs to fill out his/her Emergency Contact Information. This information will ask for your local school address, so please do not fill it out until you have secured housing and know where you will be living once you start school. The form is due by August 3, 2020.

HEALTH INSURANCE

All ICOM students are required to maintain health insurance. Students can enroll in the ICOM health insurance plan or utilize other health insurance that meets wavier requirements. To learn more about the plan or the waiver requirements, please visit the ICOM Student Health Insurance website at https://app.hsac.com/ICOM.

The waiver portal is available until July 26, 2020 for Fall semester. After this date, if a waiver has not been submitted, the student will automatically be enrolled in the ICOM Student Health Insurance plan and the insurance charge will not be removed from the student account.

If a waiver is approved, the charge to the student account will be removed. This may take up to a week after the waiver has been approved.

STUDENT INTRODUCTION VIDEOS

We would like each student to do a quick video to introduce themselves. This video will be shown at New Student Orientation. The students really enjoyed this last year and the opportunity to get to know one another better.

Click here for directions on creating your student introduction video.

STUDENT POLO SURVEY

Each student will receive an ICOM Polo during Orientation. Please fill out the Student Polo Information by Friday, June 26th.

The polos come in a general fit and a ladies fit. Please review the sizing for each fit and choose the appropriate size in the survey.

Information on sizing is available at:

STUDENT EMAIL

Each incoming student should have received an email from Google with a link to activate their ICOM Student Email account. If you have not received this link or the link has expired, please email IT at help@idahocom.org.

ONLINE TRAINING MODULES

Each incoming student will need to complete assigned compliance modules. These modules need to be completed by all students before you arrive on campus. These modules should not take too much of time, but are important to complete. The modules are completed through a company called Collaboration and you will receive emails from them that you have been added to a module and how to access the modules.

The modules to complete are:

  • Introduction and Understanding of OSHA
  • Understanding the Basic Concepts of HIPAA
  • A Student Guide to Title IX
  • Bloodborne Pathogens and HIV
  • FERPA
  • A Student’s Guide to the Clery Act
  • Harassment and Discrimination Prevention
  • A Student Guide to Campus Safety at a Glance
  • A Student Guide to Drug and Alcohol Abuse
  • A Student’s Guide to Sexual Violence and the Law
  • A Student’s Guide to Sexual Violence Prevention and Response

We can track which modules have been completed, so you do not need to send a certificate of completion to anyone. It is recommended you do keep them for your records.

INCOMING TRANSCRIPT

ICOM requires all incoming students to have official transcripts on file with their bachelor’s degree posted in order to start coursework. If you did not have your bachelor degree complete and posted to your official transcripts when you applied for medical school through AACOMAS, we will need you to have your college or university send officials to us before you start coursework on August 3rd.  Additionally, if you have completed any other coursework since applying through AACOMAS, we need an updated official to add to your record.

Transcripts MUST come directly from your college to us. Sending it electronically is best. If this is not possible, they may be sent by mail.

Electronically send to: ddrinkall@idahocom.org

Mail to:

Denyce Drinkall, Registrar

Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine

1401 East Central Drive, Meridian, ID 83642

NOTE: If you already have all your educational records reflected in AACOMAS, we do not need another set.

JUMPCLOUD

Sometime in the next two months, you will receive an email from JumpCloud to set up your account with a username and password. JumpCloud allows you access to ICOM’s systems, including the iPad and apps.

Please set up your JumpCloud account as soon as you receive the email. If you have questions or difficulty setting up your account, please contact the IT Department at help@idahocom.org.

LIBRARY AND BOOKLIST

The ICOM Library is a great resource for incoming and current students. Most of your books will be on your iPad or in a digital format. To see a list of required books, visit: https://idahocom.libguides.com/home/textbooks

WHITE COAT CEREMONY

It is with great sadness that the Class of 2024 White Coat Ceremony has been postponed. This decision was not made lightly. The health of ICOM students and their families is the most important thing and so out of an abundance of caution and to make sure ICOM is staying in alignment with state and local guidelines, postponing the White Coat Ceremony is the best option at this time.

Each student will still receive a White Coat and the details of an alternate plan for the White Coat Ceremony are being discussed. Details will follow once those plans have been finalized.

MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS

HOUSING

If you are looking for a roommate or would like to network with current and incoming students about housing, please take a look at the ICOM Housing Google Group. All incoming students were added to this Google Group. If you cannot find the group, please email Sharon Eisenbarth at seisenbarth@idahocom.org or Liz Watson at ewatson@idahocom.org.

There is also a list of area housing options available here. This list is not comprehensive, but may provide a starting point for area apartments.

FINANCIAL AID TIMELINE

ENROLLMENT VERIFICATIONS

If you need your enrollment at ICOM verified by a school official, that goes through the Office of the Registrar. In most cases, students will have a form that needs to be completed and validated by ICOM. After completion of the information, those forms will be forwarded to the address requiring the verification or, in rare circumstances, returned to the student in a PDF format.

If you do not have a form that needs to be completed but need your enrollment verified, please go to the ICOM website and under Students/Registrar, https://www.icom.edu/registrar, you will see a link to our forms. One of those is an Enrollment Verification form.

Please complete the form with the details, save it and forward it to ddrinkall@idahocom.org.

NAME CHANGES

If your name has changed since applying through AACOMAS, visit the ICOM Registrar webpage and you will see a link to our forms.  One of those forms is a Name Change form.

Two things about this:

  1. Your Social Security card with your name change on it is a mandatory document along with a second form of confirmation such as a driver’s license, marriage license or court order.
  1. If your ICOM email has already been created, we will not be able to update it with your new name.

Since finances are typically connected to your social security number and your name, that change must have taken place legally in the social security system in order for us to change it at ICOM.  Complete the form entirely, save it and send the form AND your two forms of identification with your new name on it to ddrinkall@idahocom.org.

STUDENT PORTAL

Student portals will not be activated until your course schedule is populated and billing for the fall semester is done in early July.  Right now the student portals are only a shell with just your personal information in them. When the portal is activated, you will see your fall schedule and your billing information.

NOTE: When we activate the portal, you are going to need your student ID that was sent to you for purposes of making your deposit to gain access. If you can’t locate it, please email ddrinkall@idahocom.org to get it.

ACCOMODATION REQUESTS

Matriculating or current ICOM Students with documented disabilities who desire modifications or accommodations must contact the Director of Student Affairs.

The general process of requesting accommodations is located in the Student Handbook.

STUDENT ACCOUNTS

The Student Accounts Office Manages tuition and fee billing and the subsequent collection of payments for all students enrolled at the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine. Please visit Student Accounts for more information.
