Graduates, Employees Honored during Class of 2022 Awards Banquet

The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine Spring Commencement festivities included the Class of 2022 Awards Banquet, held on May 12, 2022, at JUMP in downtown Boise. Graduates, faculty, staff and guests gathered in person to celebrate.

Seven institutional awards were bestowed, along with 10 core site awards. The award recipients are listed below.

 

President’s Award: Albert Nakayama, DO

The President’s Award recognizes a graduate who has made significant contributions to their community through service and humanitarianism. The award recognizes their commitment to service, outstanding character, and leadership throughout medical school.

 

Dean’s Award: Lijah Vann Gardner, DO

The Dean’s Award recognizes a graduate who has demonstrated excellence in academics and leadership.

 

Research Award: Gerri Lenth, DO

The Research Award recognizes a graduate who has demonstrated a commitment to research throughout medical school.

 

Outstanding Faculty Award: Lora Bennett, MD

The Outstanding Faculty Award recognizes a faculty member who has made a positive impact and demonstrated a dedication to student success and teaching.

 

Outstanding Staff Award: Caitlyn Frakes

The Outstanding Staff Award recognizes a staff member who has made an impact on student success and/or ICOM’s success over the last four years.

 

Clinical Faculty Award: Rodney Bates, DO

The Clinical Faculty Award recognizes a clinical faculty member who has demonstrated a dedication to quality teaching, enthusiasm for students, and a continuing effort to improve the knowledge and experience of each medical student.

 

Biomedical Faculty Award: Mark Slivkoff, PhD

The Biomedical Faculty Award recognizes a biomedical faculty member who has demonstrated a dedication to quality teaching, enthusiasm for students, and a continuing effort to improve the knowledge and experience of each medical student.

 

ICOM students spend their third and fourth years completing clinical clerkship rotations at core affiliated hospital and outpatient sites. The Core Site Award recognizes the top student(s) at each of ICOM’s core sites. The criteria for this award is based on preceptor grades and comments, academic performance, as well as rankings and evaluations from clerkship coordinators. The award recipients are below.

Bingham Memorial Hospital: Dallas Sturdevant, DO

Eastern Idaho Core Site: Jared Machado, DO and Tara Samiee, DO
